New Fire and Rescue Service stations are to come up at Andimadam and Thirumanur in neighbouring Ariyalur district. Though situated in Ariyalur revenue district, the new fire stations will come under the jurisdiction of the Perambalur Fire Division.
The Fire and Rescue Services authorities have identified buildings to be rented for the stations at Andimadam and Thirumanur. The stations will have a team of about 20 personnel with necessary paraphernalia, said a senior department official. A new fire station is also to come up at Veppanthattai in Perambalur district.
With the addition of Andimadam, Thirumanur. and Veppanthattai, the number of fire stations in Perambalur Fire Division will increase to nine. At present six stations are located in Perambalur, Veppur, Thuraiyur, Ariyalur, Jayamkondam, and Sendurai. Thuraiyur is in Tiruchi revenue district.
The demand for fire stations at Andimadam and Thirumanur was a long pending one, the official said and added that the new stations would be in a position to cover the two towns and its surrounding areas quickly in case of any emergency.
The official said a new building was under construction to house the Perambalur fire station in the town after demolishing the existing structure which had become old. The two-storied building being constructed at a cost of ₹4.32 crore will accommodate four fire tenders. New buildings are under construction for the existing Ariyalur and Sendurai fire stations.
