School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said that funds to the tune of ₹168.54 crore were received from Salem district alone for Namma School Namma Ooru Palli (NSNOP) scheme.
At the fourth district conference under the NSNOP scheme in Salem on Monday, the Minister said Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the scheme by giving ₹5 lakh. Now, more than ₹1,000 crore in funds have been received under the scheme. This event is to encourage efforts being made across Tamil Nadu to improve the quality of education in government schools. More than 200 people, including representatives from Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and academics, participated in the event.
Stating that Tamil Nadu emerged as a leading educational hub in India, the Minister said the highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) and the Tamil Nadu School Education Department’s NSNOP Scheme. The MoU aims to improve access to digital education for government school students and provide scholarships to them to study in leading educational institutions.
In the last four years, 1,878 government school students have been part of the leading educational institutions. Any change in society must start from the school; it must start from the students. If a country wants to eliminate poverty, then education development must be good. We (the School Education Department) are just a coordinator between donors and schools, the Minister added.
In the function, NSNOP chairman Venu Srinivasan, Salem District Collector R. Brindha Devi and officials participated.
