₹71.86 crore disbursed in education loans in Thanjavur district

A total of 952 students in Thanjavur district have received a total of ₹71.86 crore in education loans through the Prime Minister – Vidyalaxmi Education Loan Scheme.

Disclosing this in a press release, Collector B. Priyanka Pankajam said that 1,841 students pursuing higher education had applied for education loans through the PM-Vidyalaxmi unified education loan portal during the current financial year. Out of them, 952 applications were accepted and 422 were under scrutiny.

Efforts had been initiated to ensure that another 600 to 700 students stood to benefit from the scheme, which enabled students avail collateral and guarantee free loans and interest subvention during this financial year, she added.

The Collector disbursed cheques worth ₹23.62 crore to 305 students under the scheme at a function held here on Wednesday, October 29.

In Tiruvarur district, Collector B. Mohanachandran on Wednesday gave away cheques worth ₹7 crore to 435 students who had applied for education loans through the scheme portal.
