A 10-day-old baby girl, allegedly brought from Mumbai to Bhavani for illegal sale, was rescued on Thursday (November 20, 2025) following a joint operation by the Bhavani Police and Erode Childline officials.

Police said they received a tip-off at the control room that an infant had been trafficked and kept in a house near the Bhavani fish market area for the purpose of sale. Acting on the information, a team conducted a raid at the location, where they found the new born baby.

A man identified as Praveen (31), who was present in the house, was detained for inquiry. Preliminary inquiries revealed that two women had brought the 10-day-old baby from Mumbai and handed her over to Praveen for sale.

Police are investigating whether the women had obtained the baby through coercion of the parents or the child had been abducted. The rescued infant has since been placed under the care of a government shelter. Officials are continuing to interrogate Praveen to determine if others are involved in the trafficking network.
