A local court in Cuddalore on Tuesday (November 11, 2025) convicted and sentenced 10 persons to life imprisonment for murdering the president of Kilarungunam panchayat in 2020.
The prosecution case was that simmering enmity prevailed between Subash, 34, and one of the accused Damodaran during the 2019 local body elections. Subash won the election and was elected panchayat president.
On July 19, 2020, when Subash went to his agricultural field in Kilarungunam, a gang led by Damodaran hacked him to death. The Nellikuppam police registered a case and arrested Damodaran and 11 others in connection with the murder.
Investigations by the police revealed that Damodaran had hired a gang to murder Subash to avenge the death of his friend Thangavel in 2019 during the elections. Subash was one of the accused in the murder case and had been out on bail.
The Cuddalore First Additional District Sessions Court Judge G. Saraswathi convicted Damodaran and nine others to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹2,000 each.
