The Assistant Sessions Court at Padmanabhapuram has awarded 10 years imprisonment to a youth for attempting to murder a labourer.
According to prosecution, P. Sajeevan Raj, 27, of Saralvilai near Kattathurai in Kanniyakumari district developed enmity with B. Krishnakumar, 30, of Ittakulam near Viyannur in the district when the former tried to assault Sujilraj, the cousin of the latter, during a wedding organised in the local church in March 2023.
When Sajeevan Raj tried to murder Krishnakumar and Sujil Raj in the night of the same day, the left wrist of Krishnakumar was severed, while Sujil Raj managed to escape unhurt.
Thuckalay police registered case against Sajeevan Raj and arrested him for attempting to murder Krishnakumar and issuing death threat to Sujil Raj. Even as the trial of the case was going on, Sajeevan Raj went abroad in a bid to escape from the case. However, he was arrested when he landed at Mumbai airport and the trial of the case continued.
Padmanabhapuram Assistant Sessions Court judge Mariappan on Wednesday awarded 10 years imprisonment to Sajeevan Raj and slapped a fine of ā¹10,000. He also directed the Tamil Nadu Government to give āappropriate compensationā to Krishnakumar.
