Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Tuesday said the State government has taken up a massive digitisation initiative to preserve crucial land and revenue records.

Nearly 100 crore pages of documents in the Revenue Department, many of which are old and fragile, are being digitised to ensure their long-term conservation and easy public access, he said.

Speaking to reporters in Kushalnagar in Kodagu district, the Minister said that scanning and indexing of about 50 crore pages is currently under way as a permanent solution to safeguard Revenue documents. Another 50 crore pages will be digitised in the next phase to complete the initiative, he added.

He said steps are being taken to make these digitised records accessible to the public, and the digitisation process is already in progress in Kodagu district.

The Minister also said that the department has identified an additional one lakh acres of darkasth (government) land for ‘podi’ updating of records. This effort aims to resolve ownership disputes and streamline land records. So far in 2025, about 1.4 lakh acres of darkasthu land has been taken up for podi work.

“In the five years of the previous government, only about 8,000 acres of land underwent podi. In contrast, the Congress government has made major progress in the last two-and-a-half years,” he replied.

The Minister said that the government is committed to ensuring clear and legally valid ownership documents for landholders through ongoing survey and record-updating drives. “The records will be verified and podi work is taken up if they are legally valid.”

Earlier in the day, the Minister performed Guddali Puja for the construction of the Prajasoudha (taluk office) at Kushalnagar, which was declared a taluk in 2019. The Congress government had announced the building and work commenced on Tuesday.

Madikeri MLA Mantar Gowda, Deputy Commissioner Venkataraja and other senior officials from the district were present.
