A total of 110 men were counselled in the last fifteen days as part of a renewed women’s safety drive by the Rachakonda Police, which also received 135 harassment complaints during the same period.
Of the 135 complaints, 34 related to harassment over phone calls, 48 involved social media and 53 concerned direct incidents, according to DCP Women Safety T. Usharani. Counselling for the 74 adults and 36 minors involved took place at the LB Nagar Women Safety Office.
Rachakonda Police Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu said there would be no leniency for those troubling women and urged complainants to approach police without fear.
The She Teams have been operating in plain clothes at bus stands, railway and metro stations, schools, colleges, markets and other crowded locations, conducting decoy operations to identify men who chase or harass women. Officials said those caught are being presented before court with evidence, and counselling is held in the presence of their parents.
Recent actions included booking an Uber auto driver accused of assaulting passengers, arresting a man for harassing a woman on social media and detaining another who allegedly made repeated calls from different numbers. In Thukkuguda Park, the Maheshwaram She Team responded promptly to reports of rioting, detained the youth involved and registered a case.
The She Teams also conducted 49 awareness programmes between the 1st and 15th of this month, educating nearly 7,500 people on women’s rights, laws and safety measures. Decoy checks on metro trains led to eight men being found in the women’s compartment, following which metro officials imposed fines.
Women facing harassment have been urged to immediately contact She Teams on the Rachakonda WhatsApp number 8712662111. DCP T. Usha Rani, ACP Palle Venkateswarlu, inspectors M. Muni and G. Anjaiah, Admin SI Raju, She Teams personnel and counsellors took part in the initiative.
