Thirteen fishermen from Bangladesh were taken into custody by the marine police after they reached Musavanipeta of Etcherla mandal of Srikakulam district on Sunday.

According to the marine police, the fishermen were stranded at sea as they ran out of fuel and food in the boat. The boat reportedly drifted towards West Bengal and Odisha coasts and later reached Srikakulam coast.

Local fishermen informed the marine police about the movement of strangers. The police took them into custody and inquired into the reason for entering the coast. They told the police that they were starving for the past 15 days. The locals offered them food and medicine. The police said they would inform Bangladesh Coast Guard about the fishermen’s entry into Indian waters.
