Fourteen fishermen from Tamil Nadu were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in the early hours of Monday (November 10, 2025) for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and entering Sri Lankan waters.

According to sources, the fishermen had set sail from Tharangambadi in Mayiladuthurai district on Saturday (November 8) evening aboard a mechanised boat registered from Vanagiri. The crew reportedly faced a mechanical issue at sea and drifted towards Sri Lankan waters while attempting to repair the vessel.

Sources said that on Monday morning, Sri Lankan naval personnel intercepted the vessel and detained all 14 crew members. The arrested fishermen were later taken to the Kankesanthurai in northern Sri Lanka for inquiry.
