A 15-year-old boy was apprehended for sexually harassing a 23-year-old woman while she was walking in Puzhal. The boy was released after being produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.
According to police sources, the woman, a resident of the Kolathur police district, was walking by herself along the Secretariat Colony on the night of November 19.
An unidentified person, who was on a two-wheeler, approached her and molested her. As she raised an alarm, the suspect fled the scene.
She later lodged a complaint with the Puzhal police, who registered a case under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act and Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act and launched an investigation.
On scrutiny of CCTV footage from the scene, the police identified the suspect as a 15-year-old boy. The boy was apprehended and taken to the Juvenile Justice Board. He was handed over to his parents after counselling. The vehicle used by him was seized.
