Cross Cut Road in Coimbatore city turned into a celebration of Coimbatore’s artistic heritage on Sunday evening as Coimbatore Vizha presented Vizha Veedhi – A Street Festival of Culture and Rhythm, featuring 17 traditional art forms.
The event, held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. starting at Lakshmi Complex, drew large crowds eager to experience the city’s cultural heritage.
The festival was inaugurated by Coimbatore Vizha chairperson Shanmugam, co-chairperson Bindhu, Aadarsh, Kesica, Yi chairperson Neil, Yi co-chairperson Rahul, and Vizha Veedhi lead Nishanth, marking the beginning of an evening filled with music, dance, and performances.
The programme opened with the lively rhythms of Parai Attam, followed by a performance by the JAMAB Ensemble. The resounding Chenda Melam captivated spectators along the street, while folk dances such as Baduga dance and Valli Kummi, performed in traditional attire, highlighted local traditions. The melodic sounds of Nadaswaram and Thavil added a ceremonial touch, and a high-energy Dhol performance brought Punjabi rhythms to the festival.
The streets were vibrant with traditional costumes, live cultural demonstrations, colourful decorations, and active community participation. Families, youngsters, and art enthusiasts walked along Cross Cut Road, enjoying the range of performances and the festive atmosphere.
With 17 traditional art forms on display, Vizha Veedhi stood out as a key highlight of Coimbatore Vizha 2025, celebrating the city’s music, dance, and heritage while bringing the community together.
