A two-day exhibition of handlooms and handicrafts, being organised by the Crafts Council of A.P. (CCAP), was inaugurated by Mavuri Venkata Ramana of CMR Group at hotel Green Park here on Monday.

Etikoppaka artisan Santosh Kumar was felicitated on the occasion.

The exhibition showcases exquisite sarees and dresses by designers and weavers from different parts of the country. Well-known names from the textile field like Bandhani , Kalamkari, Kota, Patan Patola, linens, Chanderi and Maheshwari, and handicrafts like delicate hand embroidery, juttis, bangles, blue pottery and kansam utensils are on display at the expo.

Crafts Council of Andhra Pradesh is a nonprofit working to revitalise craft, embroidery and weaving traditions. To support artisans and run welfare schemes for them, exhibitions like ‘Vasantham’ are organised annually.

The council has over 80 members between Visakhapatnam and Vijaywada. Besides the annual exhibitions, CCAP conducts craft classes for municipal schools, workshops for artisans, field visits to remote craft villages and medical camps for weaver and artisan communities. Currently, CCAP focuses on supporting art and craft, which has been in decline since the pandemic. The expo will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday as well.
