A history-sheeter was awarded 20 years imprisonment under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl in 2022.
According to prosecution, Ramakrishnan, 27, of Vijaya Achchampaadu near Valliyoor sexually assaulted a three-year-old girl in 2022 and the Valliyoor All Women Police arrested the culprit under the POCSO Act based on the complaint from the victim’s mother.
POCSO Court Judge Sureshkumar awarded 20 years rigorous imprisonment to Ramakrishnan and imposed a fine of ₹5,000 on Tuesday. He also awarded another three years imprisonment under the SC / ST Act. However, the punishment will run concurrently.
He directed the Tamil Nadu Government to give a compensation of ₹3 lakh to the victim.
Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan said 27 accused in 26 POCSO case accused had been convicted since January 1, 2025. Of this, one of them was awarded 25 years imprisonment while two other history-sheeters received 20 years imprisonment.
