The Special Court for POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act Cases here has awarded 20 years imprisonment to a 75-year-old man for sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl.
According to prosecution, Papanasam, 75, of Kattappuli under Vickramasingapuram police station limits, sexually assaulted a eight-year-old girl and was arrested under the POCSO Act based on the complaint from the victim’s mother.
POCSO Special Court Magistrate Suresh Kumar awarded 20 years imprisonment to Papanasam on Tuesday and imposed a fine of ₹5,000.
The magistrate also directed the Tamil Nadu Government to give ₹3 lakh as compensation.
Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan said 26 accused in POCSO cases have been convicted during 2025.
