2,000 hectares of crops and 100 hectares of horticultural plantations damaged in Anakapalli district, says Minister

Minister for Home V. Anitha said that around 2,000 hectares of crops and 100 hectares of horticultural plantations were damaged across the district. She inspected the cyclone-affected areas here in Anakapalli district on Friday and assured the victims that the government would extend all possible assistance to them. She also promised to sanction permanent houses to all the victims, whose houses were damaged during the cyclone.

First, she visited Bangarammapalem village in S. Rayavaram mandal and interacted with the residents and enquired about their well-being and distributed essentials.

Speaking during her visit, Ms Anitha said that due to the timely precautions and guidance of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and Minister Nara Lokesh, the administration was able to avert loss of lives and property during the cyclone. She also stated that a new road would be laid in Bangarammapalem within 15 days. She also announced that cyclone relief assistance which was promised by the State government will be extended not only to fishermen but also to other communities residing in fishing villages.

Further, arrangements were being made to establish solar-powered fish-drying units as part of a pilot project with DWCRA women’s groups, she added.

Later, she inspected the breached section of the Sarada river at R.Agraharam in Rambilli mandal. District Collector Vijay Krishnan, Superintendent of Police Tuhin Sinha and MLA Sundarapu Vijay Kumar accompanied her.

Appreciating the administration for their timely assistance during the cyclone, Ms. Anitha said that despite severe conditions, timely response at R. Agraharam ensured there were no casualties. Collector Vijay Krishnan and MLA Vijay Kumar personally stayed in the area for two days to monitor and prevent water overflow into habitations, she stated.

“About 2,000 hectares of agricultural crops and 100 hectares of horticultural plantations were damaged across the district. Four persons trapped in the agricultural fields were safely rescued by the police and the rescue teams. Under the Collector’s supervision, temporary embankment restoration works will be started. Around 35,000 sandbags have been kept ready,” Ms Anitha said.

The Minister also said that for a permanent solution, Irrigation department authorities have prepared proposals worth ₹2.5 crore..
