2023 Ambasamudram custodial torture case: IPS officer Balveer Singh moved to Erode Special Task Force

IPS officer Balveer Singh has been transferred and posted as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in the Special Task Force (STF) unit in Erode.

Mr. Singh came under severe scrutiny in 2023 after allegations of custodial torture were levelled against him during his tenure as the ASP in Ambasamudram Sub-Division in Tirunelveli district. He was suspended following registration of criminal cases against him and subsequently sent on deputation as Deputy Commandant with the Tamil Nadu Special Police battalion at Tihar Jail in Delhi.

Seeking a posting back in Tamil Nadu, he approached the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, stating that frequent travel for court appearances had become difficult. Acting on his plea, the government transferred him.
