Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (November 6, 2025) urged voters in Bihar to exercise their franchise with full enthusiasm in the first phase of Assembly elections.

“Today Bihar celebrates the first phase of the festival of democracy. Муappeal to all voters of this phase in the assembly elections is that they should vote with full enthusiasm,” Mr. Modi said in a post on X.
“On this occasion, I specially congratulate all my young colleagues in the state who will cast their vote for the first time. Remember, vote first, then refreshments (pehle matadan, phir jalpan),” Mr. Modi said.

Elections are underway in 121 Assembly constituencies in the first phase in Bihar on Thursday, where 3.75 crore voters will decide the fate of 1,314 candidates, including top leaders such as INDIA bloc’s chief ministerial face Tejashwi Yadav and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary of the BJP.
The remaining 122 seats will go to polls on November 11, and the votes will be counted on November 14.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who left Patna for his hometown Bakhtiarpur to cast his vote, posted on X, “Voting is not only a right but also a duty of citizens in democracy.”
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, who voted in Tarapur, said, “The work done by Nitish Kumar should continue. A lot of effort has gone into the transformation we are witnessing today. Vote for development.”
Giriraj Singh, who cast his vote in Lakhisarai, defended the checking of the identity of burqa-clad women, stating it will prevent ‘vote chori’ (vote theft).
BJP MP and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad exuded confidence that the NDA would return to power in Bihar.
“The people of Bihar will vote in large numbers in both phases. The NDA will comfortably form the government. I am proud of the voters and the people of the State,” he said.
