Around 260 foreign nationals residing in Delhi without proper visa and documentation were arrested from Dwarka in a two-day operation, a police officer said on Monday. Of the 260, around 183 are being deported, he said.
Cases have also been registered against 25 landlords who allowed the foreign nationals to reside on their properties without proper verification, the officer added.
According to the police, the crackdown on illegal immigrants is part of Delhi Police’s ‘Operation Cleansweep’, which was carried out on Sunday and Monday. Joint Commissioner of Police (Western Range) Jatin Narwal said, “The operation is an ongoing campaign to root out the drug menace and take action against overstaying or undocumented foreign nationals.”
FIRs against 75 accused persons
Of the 260 accused persons, around 75 have FIRs filed against them and are out on bail, the senior officer said. A non-bailable warrant has been issued against one person and another has been charged under the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act, he added.
The JCP said the Western Range have deployed a total of 30 teams, comprising 4 Assistant Commissioners of Police, 20 Inspectors and led by their respective District Commissioner of Police, to carry out the efforts against drugs and illegal immigrants. Around 600 police personnel were deployed in all.
“We also want to apprise landlords renting out their premises to foreign nationals to fill Form-II as per the Immigration & Foreigners Act, 2025, for every single foreigner visiting or staying in their premises for even a single day. Without this, legal action will be taken against those house owners,” said Mr. Narwal.
