A total of 277 cricketers will vie for 73 available slots when the auction for the fourth edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) takes place at the JW Marriott Hotel here on November 27 (Thursday).

The auction list includes 194 Indians, comprising 52 capped and 142 uncapped players, who will go under the hammer for 50 slots. Among the overseas picks who can fill the 23 remaining slots, there are 66 capped and 17 uncapped players.

In all, 19 players are going in with a base price of ₹50 lakh. Among the six Indians in the highest price category are Deepti Sharma, Harleen Deol, Kranti Gaud, Uma Chetry, Pratika Rawal and Pooja Vastrakar. Besides Pooja, the rest were part of India’s ODI World Cup winning-squad earlier this month.

Deepti won the Player-of-the-Series award at the World Cup, finishing as the highest wicket-taker (22 scalps) with her off-breaks along with 215 runs in the middle-order. In the final against South Africa, the 28-year-old scored a run-a-ball 58 and claimed five for 39 as India sealed a 52-run victory.

Having been released by UP Warriorz, Deepti will hope to attract a bidding war for her services.

The overseas stars starting at the base price of ₹50 lakh include the likes of Alyssa Healy, Sophie Devine, Sophie Ecclestone, Meg Lanning and Phoebe Litchfield.

Left-handed opener Litchfield played just a cameo role for Gujarat Giants in the previous two editions. But having blazed her way to a sublime century against India in the semifinal of the World Cup, the 22-year-old is likely to be much sought after.

Andhra’s left-arm spinner Sree Charani, who is entering the auction at a base price of ₹30 lakh, could also spark considerable interest. She featured in just two games for Delhi Capitals last season, but the 21-year-old has since gone on to establish herself as a key member of India’s ODI set-up.
