2,838 beneficiaries received ₹13.65 crore welfare assistance in Coimbatore

A total of 2,838 beneficiaries in Coimbatore district received welfare assistance worth ₹13.65 crore under various schemes at a function held on Saturday to mark the death anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar.

The assistance was jointly distributed by Coimbatore MP Ganapathi P. Rajkumar, District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, Mayor K. Ranganayaki, Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran, and Deputy Mayor R. Vetriselvan.

Under various schemes, 14 beneficiaries received housing assistance worth ₹69.36 lakh, 27 received loans under the Chief Minister’s Arise scheme worth ₹2.15 crore, and nine received support under the PM-AJAY scheme worth ₹10.48 lakh. Educational support was provided to five children of contract conservancy workers, accidental death aid to four families, and marriage assistance to two beneficiaries. Bank loans under the Rural Livelihood Mission benefited 26 beneficiaries, while 535 received other welfare support worth ₹70.39 lakh. Additional monetary aid included loans to women’s self-help groups, housing allotments, and livelihood assistance across multiple departments.

For their contribution to the construction of Semmozhi Poonga, 1,200 conservancy workers of Coimbatore Corporation were felicitated with commemorative gifts.

At Ondippudur Government Boys Higher Secondary School, free bicycles worth ₹41.85 lakh were distributed to 350 boys and 519 girls from several government schools. Later, the dignitaries inaugurated a social justice hostel for college women at Sungam, constructed at a cost of ₹10.13 lakh by the Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department.
