The Tirunelveli district police have executed 2,893 non-bailable warrants during this year since January by arresting the accused, who went underground after being enlarged on bail to avoid attending the ongoing trials in the court and early verdict by the courts.
In a statement, Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan said the district police had been entrusted with the job of executing the non-bailable warrants pending in various police stations after the accused went underground. As the accused did not attend the trial, the cases were pending. Consequently, the courts issued non-bailable warrants against these accused.
The Station House Officers were asked to execute these pending warrants by arresting them. Among those who were arrested by the police were murder case accused Mayaperumal, 60, of Brammadesan, who went underground for 9 years, Antony Suresh, 52, of Radhapuram (6 years) and Rajesh, 40, of Kerala (hiding in Karnataka for 7 years) and criminal breach of trust case accused Thomas, 64, (hiding in Karnataka for 10 years), Mr. Silambarasan said.
