A special team of the Greater Chennai Police has arrested three persons in Rajasthan on charges of attacking a jewellery workshop owner at Elephant Gate here recently and taking away 52 sovereigns of gold coins worth ₹60 lakh, along with silver and copper coins.
Jagadeesh, 34, a resident of Seven Wells, runs a jewellery workshop on Venkatrayan Street, Elephant Gate. On Monday evening, two men came to his workshop pretending to purchase gold coins and attacked him.Â
They then took away approximately 750 grams of gold coins, silver coins, and copper plates stored in the workshop.
Based on a complaint lodged by Jagadeesh, the Elephant Gate Police registered a case and began investigating the case.
Based on information that the accused were hiding in Bagudi Nagar Police Station limits in Pali district of Rajasthan, the special team flew to Rajasthan.
With the assistance of local police and after gathering intelligence from various villages, the team identified and arrested the three accused in the early hours of Thursday in Pali district.
The arrested men have been identified as Vardharam, alias Vinod, 33, Sarwan Gurjar, 19 andî ˆOmprakash, 23 of Rajasthan.Â
The police recovered 414.8 grams of gold coins, 36 grams of silver coins, and 295 grams of copper plates from the accused.
The arrested persons were produced before the Sirohi court in Pali district in Rajasthan. By following the necessary legal procedures, they will be brought to Chennai for further probe, the police said.
