Two persons, including a child, were killed and three others sustained injuries after a private bus rammed a parked lorry on National Highway 44 near Boath X Roads in Adilabad district early on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Dipson Nishad, 4, a resident of Gorakhpur, and Ravi Singh, 60. The injured Sonu Nishad, 31, and his wife Sarika, were shifted to a nearby hospital and are reported to be stable.

According to Adilabad SP Akhil Mahajan, the bus, operated by Abha Travels, was travelling from Hyderabad to Gorakhpur when it crashed into the lorry from the rear, which had been parked on the shoulder of the road as its driver had stopped to sleep. There were 45 passengers on board, and the incident occurred at around 5 a.m.

Mahajan said that many vehicles use this route to bypass tolls. “In view of frequent accidents here, we are planning to install an RTO and police checkpost to prevent heavy vehicles from using the road,” he said.

The bus driver, identified as Govind Prasad Jaiswal, 50, was traced and taken into police custody. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
