The 40th All India Postal Table Tennis tournament commenced on Monday at the S3 Sports Arena in Visakhapatnam. Andhra Pradesh Circle Chief Postmaster General B.P. Sridevi inaugurated the event and said that it was a great honour and opportunity for Andhra Pradesh to host this prestigious All India level sports event in the port city.
Arjuna Awardee (weightlifting) Neelamsetty Lakshmi attended as guest of honour, and said: “There will be winners and losers, but what truly matters is the spirit of participation and the memories created.”
A total of 129 players from 14 postal circles – Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Punjab, Jharkhand, and Andhra Pradesh are competing in both men’s and women’s categories.
The inaugural men’s match was played between West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh circles, while in the women’s category, the opening match featured Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh circles.
A special postal cover was released to mark the occasion. The event will run until November 14, said Visakhapatnam regional postmaster general V.S. Jayasankar.
