431 motorists booked in Cyberabad weekend drunk driving crackdown

A total of 431 motorists were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol during a special weekend drive carried out by Cyberabad traffic police.

Two-wheelers made up the majority of violations, accounting for 325 cases, followed by 86 four-wheelers, 16 three-wheelers and four heavy vehicles. Most offenders recorded Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 35 mg and 200 mg per 100 ml, while 11 motorists were found with dangerously high levels ranging from 301 mg to 550 mg. All the accused will be produced before court.

Chevella reported the highest number of cases at 49, followed by Shamshabad with 44 and Rajendranagar with 43. At the other end of the spectrum, KPHB reported no cases, while Narsingi and RC Puram recorded 10 each.

The age-wise data showed that the majority of offenders were young motorists aged 21 to 40, with 181 cases reported among those aged 21 to 30 and 150 in the 31 to 40 age group. Seven offenders were above the age of 61.

Authorities warned that if a person is found driving in an inebriated condition and causes a fatal accident, they will be charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which pertains to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The offence carries a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine.

In the previous week, between November 24 and 29, 320 drunk driving cases were disposed of in court. Of these, 264 offenders were fined, 35 received both fines and were assigned social service, while 21 offenders were sentenced to both fines and imprisonment.
