The Dakshina Kannada district administration has issued 59 permits for extraction of laterite stones from agriculture lands so far. The pending 12 applications for permits will be processed shortly, said H.V. Darshan, Deputy Commissioner, in Mangaluru on December 2.
Speaking with reporters, Mr. Darshan said that with strict enforcement to stop illegal extraction and illegal transportation in the last two months, the price of each laterite stone, which is more used in house construction, has gone up to ā¹65. With issuance of permits and reduction of royalty, the price of each laterite stone is now at ā¹50.
With regard to sand extraction, he said no permits have been used in Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) areas in Mangaluru. Sand extraction is sent to commence by March in 52 sand blocks in non-CRZ areas, he added.
The Mangaluru City Corporation has released ā¹7 crore for the first phase of work of filling potholes on city roads, which includes the road between Karavali Circle and Pumpwell Circle, Mr. Darshan said.
