In a joint initiative with the participation of Young Indians (Yi) and the Centre for Education Development Action and Research (CEDAR), a non governmental organisation, the Tiruchi Corporation has launched a three-month training programme on creative photography to impart photographic skills to underprivileged schoolchildren.
While the Yi and CEDAR will sponsor the expenditure for the programme, the civic body will engage students studying in the Corporation schools. CEDAR will engage Karthik, Alasata Miranda, cinematographers, and Marikannan, assistant cinematographer, to provide intensive training to students on various aspects of photography.
The initiative was to be a fallout of a similar successful programme implemented in Thoothukudi when L. Madhubalan, Commissioner of Tiruchi Corporation, was holding the post in Thoothukudi Corporation. It will be implemented in Corporation High School at Edamalaipattipudur and Corporation Middle School at Piratiyur.
Praveen Krishnakumar, chapter chair, Yi, Tiruchi, K. Sashank Mothi, co-chair, Chinnaraj Joseph Jaikumar, Managing Trusty, CEDAR and others participated in a programme held at Edamalaipattipudur on Friday.
Dr. Praveen said that 60 children, who had evinced interest to undergo training on creative photography, had been chosen for the programme. They would be imparted photography skills by the experts. It would conclude in January. It was aimed at opening up avenues for the underprivileged children on photography.
