A 64-year-old female elephant, ‘Indira’, which was ailing for the past five months at the Elephant Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre at M.R. Palayam in Tiruchi district, died on Saturday morning.
The elephant was unwell for the past five months and was treated as recommended by the expert committee constituted by the District Forest Officer.. Despite continuous treatment, the elephant died on Saturday around 8 a.m.
The autopsy was done by a team of veterinary doctors at the centre. The samples were collected for laboratory analysis as per the relevant guidelines, and the elephant was subsequently buried within the centre’s premises.
