650 cusecs of water released from Vaigai dam for drinking water purpose to 3 districts

Following an appeal from the public, the State government has directed the PWD officials to release water from Vaigai dam for drinking purposes to residents in select pockets in Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar districts through the Kiruthumal river on Friday.

According to the officials, 650 cusecs of water would be released for the next eight days from the reservoir which would be let in the Kiruthumal river. The water level in the dam stood at 63.85 feet (max level 71 ft) with an inflow of 1147 cusecs and discharge of 1419 cusecs, they added.
