Chaos continued at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) on Thursday (December 4, 2025) as widespread cancellations by IndiGo airlines disrupted travel for thousands of passengers for the second consecutive day.

Hyderabad airport officials said 68 IndiGo flights had been cancelled for the day, including 35 arrivals and 33 departures. The disruption was significantly higher than Wednesday (December 3), when 31 cancellations had already caused long queues, confusion and extended waiting times across terminals.

Cancellations were not the only concern on Thursday (December 4), with many passengers also reporting prolonged delays. Travellers complained that they were left without reliable information on revised timings and were unsure about alternative arrangements.

IndiGo, in a statement issued on Wednesday evening (December 3), attributed the disruption to what it described as ‘a multitude of unforeseen operational challenges’, which included minor technology glitches, winter-season driven schedule changes, adverse weather, increased congestion in the aviation system and the implementation of updated Flight Duty Time Limitations for crew. These factors had a compounding effect that was not feasible to be anticipated’, the airline said.

To stabilise operations, the airline said it had initiated calibrated adjustments to its schedules for a 48-hour period. The measures were intended to contain the disruption and help restore punctuality across its network, they said.

Meanwhile, videos on social media showed tempers flaring inside the airport. One clip showed passengers on a Hyderabad to Bangalore service engaging in heated arguments with airline staff. A woman in the video questioned why the flight had been scheduled if crew were unavailable and said passengers travelling for emergencies were being put through distress.

Another video, shared by Srikar Kandikonda, showed agitated passengers confronting IndiGo staff at a boarding gate. He wrote that the airline had been “messing with people since yesterday”, adding that his own flight was cancelled one hour before departure and that some passengers had been waiting at the airport for more than 24 hours even as new bookings continued.

Ravi Thakkar said he had been stranded in Hyderabad for three days following repeated cancellations of flight 6E 883. “Rescheduled twice, cancelled every time. Now asked to stay one more day. Who covers my stay, transport and work loss?” he wrote.

Another passenger, Aditya Bhargava, said his Hyderabad to Madurai flight, 6E 6467, had been cancelled at 3.15 a.m. on Thursday (December 4). Even though it was scheduled to depart at 6.45 a.m. He said he was unable to access IndiGo’s Plan B option,” he wrote.
