85 kg ganja smuggled in car seized at Manapparai

Ganja weighing 85.5 kg that was being smuggled in a car was seized by the police in Manapparai police station limits in the district on Sunday.  A traffic police team of Manapparai was conducting vehicle checks on the Manapparai-Viralimalai road when they tried to stop a car bearing a Delhi registration number.

The police said they got suspicious when the car driver ignored their signal to stop the vehicle. They intercepted the vehicle after a chase. Four persons travelling in the car fled the spot abandoning the vehicle. 

Police personnel from Manapparai station found 85.5 kg of ganja when they checked the vehicle. A case under NDPS Act was registered at the Manapparai station. The police found five fake registration number plates inside the vehicle besides copies of employment identity card and a couple of Aadhaar cards of Mariappan, Ajith and Navinkumar, a police press release said.

During inquiry, it came to light that Mariappan had pending NDPS cases against him in Dindigul, Ramanathapuram, and Perambalur districts. A special team is on the look out for the accused involved in the offence, the release added.
