With IndiGo cancelling several flights for the third consecutive day, chaos prevailed at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Thursday as several agitated passengers were seen arguing with airline staff and security personnel.
On Thursday, 99 IndiGo flights were cancelled which included 54 arrivals and 45 departures.
Many videos were doing rounds with angry passengers arguing with airline staff and security personnel over cancellation of flights and repeated delays.
Many passengers, who had reached the airport hoping that the airline would restore normal operations following widespread disruptions over the last few days, were disappointed as the airline had cancelled flights on many routes.
Around 9 a.m., 73 flights, including 41 arrivals and 32 departures, were called due to operational reasons. Flights on many routes were also delayed which led to heated arguments between the passengers and airline staff.
Several passengers complained that their travel schedules had gone awry due to the cancellation of flights. They said that airline staff were clueless about the schedules and that there was no prior communication from the airline about the cancellation.
“They were clueless about what was happening. Many of us have been waiting since morning hoping that flight services would be restored,” said a passenger.
Among those whose flight was repeatedly rescheduled was Abhay Upadhyay, president of Forum For People’s Collective Efforts, whose flight to Kolkata was originally scheduled to depart at 4.30 a.m., however it was rescheduled at 6.10 which too got cancelled, and he was later accommodated in a flight at 5 p.m.
On Wednesday, 62 flights were cancelled and a day earlier 20 flights were cancelled at the airport.
