A White Tiger, Sharan, died of illness at Kakatiya Zoo in Hanamkonda on February 3, 2026

A 15-year-old White Tiger, Sharan, at the Kakatiya Zoological Park in Hanamkonda died on Tuesday (February 3, 2026) following prolonged age-related ailments and a sudden cardiac arrest, according to curator of the Zoo B. Mayuri
She said that the tiger underwent treatment for past two months for complications related to high blood pressure, cardiac issues, and renal degeneration conditions commonly associated with older big cats. “Despite continuous medical care by the veterinary team, the animal succumbed to a sudden cardiac arrest,” she added.
Ms. Mayuri, a Forest Range Officer (FRO), noted that while the average lifespan of a White Tiger is around 14 years, the big cat lived up to 15 years due to improved medical care and enhanced conservation efforts at the zoo.
The tiger was brought from Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, and released into the tiger enclosure at Kakatiya Zoological Park in July 2025.
Following the death, officials said a post-mortem examination would be conducted as per the instructions of the Chief Wildlife Warden and in line with prescribed protocol. A detailed report will be submitted to the Head Office, Hyderabad.
