The district administration has announced that complaints regarding malpractices in paddy procurement can be lodged over telephone.
Disclosing this in an official release, Collector B. Priyanka Pankajam said that 511 direct procurement centres (DPCs) had been set up in Thanjavur district and a total of 56,264 tonnes of paddy had been procured from 11,550 farmers. A sum of â‚ą142 crore had been credited in the bank accounts of the farmers who had measured paddy at the centres.
At the same time, complaints were being made that non-farmers from other districts were also selling their paddy at the DPCs in Thanjavur district by producing fake documents.
Legal action would be initiated against persons, particularly seasonal workers and procurement officers, assisting them to get their paddy sold at the DPCs in the district. Complaints regarding such malpractices could be lodged through the toll-free number 18005993540 or through 94437 32305 (SRM) or (04362) 235321 / 231909.
