Coimbatore City Police arrest 10 persons; three ‘fracture’ legs in escape bid

The Coimbatore City Police on Wednesday arrested 10 persons, including history-sheeters, for alleged involvement in different crimes.

In one of the cases, the Rathinapuri police on Wednesday arrested Joshwa Devapriyan (27), and Switson Bernard (26) from Gandhipuam and Bharani Sounder (24) from Valipalayam in Tiruppur on the charge of possessing 5.5 kg of ganja, which they had procured from Anaikatti. The police said that the trio, two of them history-sheeters, jumped from a flyover near Ganapathy and fractured their legs, while attempting to escape from the police. They were admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment.

The Sarvanampatti police said that Devapriyan and Sounder were also involved in an assault case reported at VOC Nagar in their jurisdiction on Monday night. The police arrested Sam Leone (19), and Satheesh Kumar (29) of Gandhipuram and D. Manikandan (24) of Rathinapuri, who were also involved in the assault case, on Wednesday morning.

The Ramanathapuram police have arrested A. Hariharan (28) alias Japan of Bharathi Nagar at GN Mills and R. Kannan (26) of New Housing Unit at Ammankulam on the charge of attempting to murder V. Parthiban (26) of Ammankulam, near Puliyakulam, on Monday. The police said that a special court in 2022 had awarded life imprisonment to Hariharan, Kannan and another person for murdering Parthiban’s friend K. Naveenkumar (23) of Ammankulam in January 2020. They had come out of prison, after moving the Madras High Court against the conviction, and committed the crime on Monday afternoon, said the police. Kannan had been involved in four other cases.

In another case, the Ramanathapuram police arrested S. Muthuvel (24) of Ukkadam and S. Kalaiarasan (23) of Puliyakulam with 600 kg of ganja from Sungam.
