The new nameboard for Sivakasi railway station in which Hindi has replaced Tamil in the centre has received condemnation from State Finance Minister and DMK leader, Thangam Thennarasu.

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister and DMK Virudhunagar North district secretary Thangam Thennarasu, has condemned Southern Railway for relegating Tamil in the name boards of Sivakasi railway station.
In his social media post, Mr. Thennarasu has said that Hindi as been given importance “pushing Tamil back” in the nameboards.
He has also posted a photograph of one of the new nameboards of the station in which Hindi has taken the centre stage. In the old nameboards, English was on the top, Tamil name was in the centre and Hindi was at the bottom.
However, in the new nameboards, Tamil was put in the top and Hindi has got the prominence in the centre and English has been put at the bottom.
“Southern Railway should give up its indirect attempt on Hindi imposition by respecting the linguistic sentiments of the people,” he said in the social media post.
“Tamil is the first, elder and principal (language)” his post read.
Meanwhile, DMK MP, Kanimozhi too has responded to the issue of prominence being given to Hindi in the nameboards of railway station.
“The virus of Hindi imposition that is spreading like contagious disease needs to be contained,” she said in a social media post.
She said that Hindi has been given prominence in the nameboard of Sivakasi railway station continuing with what had happened with Chennai Park Railway station.
