Reiterating that the Munambam land is Waqf property, Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama Mushavara leader Umar Faizy Mukkam on Thursday (February 5) said that all possible legal and administrative steps would be taken to protect it, asserting that there would be no compromise on safeguarding the rights over Waqf lands.
Addressing the media after being appointed a member of the Waqf Board, Mr. Faizy said he was happy about the responsibility entrusted to him and assured that he would discharge his duties with honesty and integrity.
He said he would take a firm stand for the protection of the community and Waqf properties.
Referring specifically to Munambam, he said the land unequivocally belonged to the Waqf and stressed that its protection was essential. “The rights over Waqf land must be preserved, and I am not prepared for any concession on this issue,” he said.
Clarifying his earlier remarks on communism, Mr. Faizy said they were part of his ideological position. His approach to political parties, he said, was issue-based.
He added that he would support the CPI(M) when it did good work and criticise it when it took wrong positions.
Mr. Faizy also denied reports that he had made any remarks against Panakkad Thangal, calling such claims baseless.
He came down on sections of the media for publishing reports without proper fact-checking, saying such practices created misunderstandings and emphasised the need for responsible reporting.
