The Tamil Nadu Anganwadi Workers’ Association staged a sit-in protest in Krishnagiri on the implementation of electoral promises outlined in the previous manifesto among a raft of other demands.
The association demanded hike in payments for anganwadi workers that included ₹15,700 for cooks and ₹19,500 for anganwadi workers. They also sought extension of national health insurance for health care workers, filling up of 60,000 vacancies, and providing 12 months of maternity leave, 12-day casual leave, a summer vacation for a month and menstrual leave.
The protesters also demanded maintenance pay during suspension of workers, ₹10 lakh gratuity payment and pension dearness allowance to enable a dignified life after retirement.
The association urged the government to honour its promises made and have threatened to intensify their protests.
