Experts decode Union Budget at Thiagarajar School of Management

The Thiagarajar School of Management Centre of Excellence in Banking, Applied Economics and Financial Markets, supported by Federal Bank Hormis memorial foundation, organised a panel discussion followed by an interaction on “Decoding Union Budget 2026: Implications for Economy, Taxation and Markets”.

According to a press release issued here on Tuesday, the panel members included Janarthanan Ethirajulu, Vice President, Global Delivery Executive and APAC Leader – IFAO Consulting, Capgemini; Renjith R, Assistant Professor, Economics and Public Policy Area, IIM Tiruchirappalli; Chartered Accountants G. Saravana Kumar and J. Balasubramanian.

Mr. Janarthanan said that towards the five trillion economy in 2028 and changing geo political situations, India should be working on higher targets and this inclusive budget is towards that direction. Based on the economic survey of India, though inflation is under control, unemployment rate, rupee’s fall against dollar in comparison with other Asian economies and outflow of foreign portfolio investment are matter of concern, which Dr. Renjith expressed concern.

Mr. Saravanakumar explained the way in which the current budget simplified the tax incentives towards attracting foreign investments, clear and simple compliance procedure for individual taxpayers and MSME sector, besides decriminalising the procedures through new Income Tax Bill, 2025. The impact of GST 2.0 on the consumption part of Indian economy was well explained by Mr. Balasubramanian.

More than 120 participants, including students and faculty members from colleges and schools across Madurai, took part in the programme.

The TSM Director Murali Sambasivan presided. Dean Balaji spoke about the Centre and its initiatives. The Centre of Excellence Head Pradeep proposed a vote of thanks.
