Former Minister Gudivada Amarnath has asserted that the groundwork for establishing the Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel Plant in Anakapalli district was initiated in 2022, by the YSRCP government led by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. He accused the present NDA government of attempting to claim undue credit for the project, disregarding the contributions and groundwork laid by the YSRCP.
Addressing a press conference at the party office on Tuesday, Mr Amarnath criticised Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for what he called ‘credit stealing’. He said that a MoU for the steel plant was signed in 2022 during the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, where Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy held discussions with Mr. Aditya Mittal. Though the foundation for the steel plant was laid before the 2024 elections, the current government is portraying it as its own achievement. He also stated that even for the Inorbit Mall in the North Constituency, it was Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy who laid foundation stone, but the present government is trying to take the credit.
