Workshop held on marine mammal–fishery interaction, conservation

The ICAR–Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT), in association with the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF), organised a workshop and awareness programme on Marine Mammal–Fishery Interaction and Conservation at the Village Resource Centre of MSSRF, Thangachimadam, here on Wednesday.

The programme was conducted under the Marine Mammal Stock Assessment in India project funded by the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).

Chinnakuppan, Deputy Director of Fisheries, Ramanathapuram, after inaugurating the event, emphasised the conservation importance of dugongs and highlighted their critical role in maintaining the health of coastal and seagrass ecosystems.
