Sri Ramakrishna Speciality Hospital in association with Delta Cancer Foundation (DCF) and Royal Lions Club of Tiruchi conducted a free stoma care training programme as well as a stoma kit donation drive as part of World Colon Cancer Awareness Month on Sunday.
A stoma is surgically created opening on the abdomen that allows the elimination of waste when the normal bowel is not functional or has been removed during cancer surgery. A colostomy is a type of stoma in which a portion of the large intestine is brought to the abdominal surface to divert stool into a collection bag.
