Rural Development Minister and senior DMK leader I. Periyasamy has assured that water from Vaigai river, through the combined drinking water scheme, will be sourced to meet the drinking water needs of the people of Athoor Assembly constituency in Dindigul district.
Mr. Periyasamy began his election campaign from Pillaiyarnatham on Wednesday. He said the Assembly constituency will soon receive water from Vaigai river. The DMK government has met the demands of the people of Athoor Assembly constituency. Government colleges were opened and announcements have already been made for the establishment of a TIDEL park and a hospital in the Assembly constituency, he said.
Referring to the DMK’s election manifesto for the 2026 Assembly election, he said significant announcements have been made considering the welfare of the people. DMK president and Chief Minister M.K. Other schemes that were being implemented by the DMK government for the welfare of the people would continue when the DMK is voted back to power, he said.
Several women centric welfare schemes have been implemented by the DMK government. Through the schemes women were able to support their families on their own, he said. He assured that after the DMK was voted back to power, the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) would be implemented without any interruptions.
He pointed out that it was the DMK government that resolved the drinking water crisis in Pillaiyarnatham panchayat by bringing water from the Kamarajar Reservoir to meet the drinking water needs of the people.
