In view of the 61-day fishing ban, maintenance work has begun by hauling mechanised boats onto the shore in Rameswaram and Pamban.

Every year, from April 15 to June 14, a government ban is imposed on mechanised boat fishermen from going out to sea, as this is the fish breeding season across all coastal areas of Tamil Nadu.
