An earthmover and a truck seized by police near Alanganallur on Saturday.
In a drive against illegal mining of minerals and smuggling, Madurai district police on Saturday arrested three persons and seized earthmovers and trucks in two different places.
A statement said that the police took up intensive preventive measures along with patrolling across the district.
During the drive, the police found that a tipper lorry was smuggling gravel during a check conducted at Thenur under Samayanallur police station limits. The truck was seized and the driver Chinnamaruthu of Samayanallur was arrested.
In the other incident reported under Alanganallur police station limits, the police found that an earthmover was loading illegally-smuggled gravel dumped at Pannaikudi.
The police seized the earthmover and a lorry and arrested Manimaran and Karthikeyan of Alanganallur.
