Wild Tamil Nadu, the acclaimed wildlife documentary directed by wildlife photographer and filmmaker Kalyan Varma, is all set to premiere on YouTube on July 5. The documentary, narrated by acclaimed actor Arvind Swamy, was produced by Sundram Fasteners as a CSR initiative in collaboration with Nature in Focus and supported by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department.
The one-hour natural history documentary celebrates the State’s biodiversity and ecological heritage. It takes the viewers on an immersive journey through Tamil Nadu’s diverse landscapes and attempts to capture rare and intimate moments from the natural world, many of which, the makers say, have never been documented on camera before.

“Interweaving breathtaking visuals with compelling storytelling, Wild Tamil Nadu highlights iconic species such as elephants and leopards alongside lesser-known inhabitants including lion-tailed macaques, fireflies and the elusive Madras hedgehog. Beyond its wildlife narrative, the film explores the deep and enduring relationship between people, culture and nature in India’s southernmost state,” reads a press release from the makers.
Produced over four years, the film has an evocative soundtrack composed by three-time Grammy Award winner Ricky Kej.
Speaking about the digital release, Arathi Krishna, Managing Director, Sundram Fasteners Ltd., said that releasing the documentary on YouTube will inspire greater awareness about conservation. “The film captures the soul of Tamil Nadu’s wilderness, and we are hopeful that it will encourage viewers to appreciate and protect the natural ecosystems that make the region unique,” added Arathi.
The documentary will release on YouTube in both English and Tamil narratives.
