The district administration has launched a campaign to clean up the beaches in Nagapattinam.
The campaign was launched under the auspices of Namma Nagai Koottam, an informal voluntary group.
Collector K. J. Praveen Kumar inaugurated the campaign at the Nagore beach on Sunday. The campaign would be conducted every month, and an exclusive channel created for the group on a messaging platform, he said..
Not many districts were endowed with beautiful beaches as Nagapattinam. “Keeping the beaches clean is not just the responsibility of the administration; the participation of the local people is also important,” he said, calling for the cooperation of all sections.
Various other social campaigns such as blood and book donations would be taken up under the Namma Nagai Kootam, he added.
Over 300 volunteers, including students and self help group members, participated in the cleaning drive, an official release said.
