Remove garbage
Garbage dumped along Amala School Street in Tirunagar, particularly near the school compound wall, has created an unhygienic environment and poses a health risk to residents and schoolchildren.
The waste is often scattered across the road, while stray cattle feed on it.
Adding to the problem, the Corporation’s garbage collection vehicle does not regularly visit the street, forcing residents to make separate requests for waste collection.
Madurai Corporation should prevent indiscriminate dumping and ensure regular door-to-door garbage collection on Amala School Street, as in other residential areas.

Monsoon preparedness
The recent news report on stagnant rainwater highlights the need for better preparedness to tackle waterlogging in the city. The Madurai Corporation should deploy heavy-duty motor pumps to drain stagnant water immediately after heavy rainfall and take preventive measures before the northeast monsoon.
Sprinkling bleaching powder in waterlogged areas and improving coordination among civic authorities, elected representatives, and district officials would help prevent the spread of diseases and minimise public inconvenience.

Better bus connectivity
Commuters on the Periyar Nilayam–Oomachikulam route lack a direct city bus service to Arappalayam Bus Stand. At present, only one bus operates on the Alagarkoil–Arappalayam route with limited trips, causing inconvenience to passengers.
The TNSTC should introduce a circular bus service from Oomachikulam or Chathirapatti to Arappalayam via Iyer Bungalow, KK Nagar, Anna Bus Stand and Simmakkal. Additional services to Mattuthavani MGR Bus Stand would also benefit commuters in these rapidly growing localities.

Repair V.O.C. bridge
The condition of the V.O.C. Bridge bypass road poses a serious safety risk to motorists. The damaged side railings, broken barricades and deteriorating parapet walls have left some portions exposed, increasing the risk of accidents.
The State Highways Department should immediately repair the damaged portions and restore safety measures to prevent accidents.
