Aranthangi govt. hospital upgraded, gets new building

A new building for the Government District Headquarters Hospital in Aranthangi in Pudukottai district was declared open by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay through video conference on Tuesday.

The ground-plus-six floor building was constructed at a cost of ₹48.81 crore. The ground floor would house the outpatient, general consultation, foot care, and emergency wards while the other floors would have intensive care unit, various wards, and diagnostic units.

The Aranthangi Arignar Anna Government Hospital was upgraded as the district headquarters hospital after the Pudukottai government hospital was attached to the government medical college in the town. The Aranthangi hospital, with 270 beds, caters to about 900-1,000 outpatients a day.

J. Mohamed Farvas, Minister for Labour Welfare and Skill Development, along with District Collector M. Aruna, inspected the facilities after the inauguration.

Centre of excellence

The Chief Minister also declared open the building for a Centre of Excellence, constructed at a cost of ₹6.25 crore, at the Aranthangi Government Polytechnic College. The centre has been established under the joint initiative of the Government of Tamil Nadu and Tata Technologies with the objective of enhancing students technical knowledge and their employability skills. Latest laboratories and equipment have been established at the centre at a cost of about ₹50 crore.

The Centre of Excellence is equipped with advanced facilities such as 3D Printing, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Internet of Things, Industrial Automation and Battery Electric Vehicle technologies.

This apart, new habitations constructed at a cost of ₹60.19 crore at Renganmmal Chathiram and new health sub centres buildings constructed at a cost of ₹45 lakh each at Kottur and Thethikadu in the district were declared open by the Chief Minister.
